We strive to make Rat Race Cycles a great place to work as well as a great workshop. We’re motivated by kindness, honesty and respect and we think it’s really important to give excellence in customer service and professional standards, to support each other and to keep on learning and improving.

About us:

Rat Race Cycles is a bike shop that’s mainly a workshop in Nunhead, London SE15. We’ve built an excellent reputation for bike servicing and customer services over the last 9 years and we’re proud to have a 4.9 star rating on Google with 137 reviews so far. We’re not a big shop* but we punch above our weight; we have a lot of loyal and keen customers, mainly commuters, urban and road riders but with an increasing number of gravel and mountain bikers.

* although we’re expanding the premises later this year to add two more workstands, and more stock and workshop storage

We’re a close-knit team and we’re committed to being an inclusive workspace; diversity in the team is key. Nunhead’s a lovely area just east of Peckham and the main street is comprised almost entirely of independent shops, so the area has a lot of character and we’re happy to be part of the supportive local community.

About who we’re looking for:

We’re currently looking for experienced mechanics, with full-time workshop experience. Our workshop handles almost anything that comes through the door, from cargo bikes to EPS, carbon TT rigs with full internal cables to Sturmey Archers to Bromptons to gluing tubulars, so we’re looking for someone with some experience as well as a willingness to learn. You’ll need to be good on the phone, computer-savvy enough to use our EPOS system, and financially aware.

At our core is superb customer service, so you’ll need to be excellent at communicating with all kinds of customers with kindness and consideration; we have people desperate to keep their basic bike running for as little as possible as it’s their only form of transport, and we have people with a fleet of five-figure superbikes who want the newest kit, and we treat them equally, whether they know loads about bikes or very little.

You’ll be training and developing more junior staff, and because we know learning never stops, you’ll also be keeping up with the latest tech docs, and attending training courses to get to grips with whatever’s new – because odds are it’s going to come through the door shortly.

If you’ve got professional workshop experience and you’re great with customers from all backgrounds; if you’re eloquent, financially numerate, computer literate and youve got great attention to detail, please call 020 3369 5904 and leave us a voicemail no longer than 60 seconds long telling us why you’re the best person for us and how to get in touch with you.
