As well as creating a great workshop, we strive to make Rat Race Cycles a great place to work. We’re motivated by kindness, honesty and respect, and we believe it’s incredibly important to provide excellent customer service, to support each other and to keep on learning and improving.
About who we’re looking for:
We’re currently looking for a full-time mechanic to service bikes.
You won’t need to know everything about everything (nobody can!) but a Cytech 2 level qualification is ideal, and previous professional workshop experience is essential.
Superb customer service is at the heart of what we do, so you’ll need to be excellent at communicating with customers from all backgrounds with kindness and consideration; we have people desperate to keep their basic bike running for as little as possible as it’s their only form of transport, and we have people with a fleet of five-figure superbikes who want the newest kit, and we treat them equally, whether they know loads about bikes or very little.
We believe ongoing learning is vital. We support each other and we learn from our own and each others’ mistakes. You’ll need to be comfortable teaching less experienced team members, and learning from more experienced team members. There’s always something new in bike tech so we keep up with the latest tech courses and briefings on new kit.
And just sometimes things can get really busy so you’ll need to be able to prioritise, focus and remain calm and patient under pressure.
About us:
Rat Race Cycles is a bike shop that’s mainly a workshop in Nunhead, London SE15. We’ve built an excellent reputation for bike servicing and customer services over the last 10 years and we’re proud to have a 4.9 star rating on Google with over 200 reviews so far. We’re not a big shop but we punch above our weight; we have a lot of loyal and keen customers, from commuters to club riders, track, road and ‘cross racers, and an increasing number of gravel and long-distance adventure riders.
We’re a close-knit team and we’re committed to being an inclusive workspace; diversity in the team is important to us. Nunhead’s a lovely area just east of Peckham and the main street is comprised almost entirely of independent shops, so the area has a lot of character and we’re happy to be part of the supportive local community.
We’re one of the few Living Wage bike shops in London, and on top of this team members get trade discounts, time and space to work on their own bikes and any other help we can offer. We’re generally closed on Bank Holidays and between Christmas and New Year, and everyone gets four weeks’ holiday on top of these days.
If you’re great with customers from all backgrounds; if you’re eloquent, patient and kind, computer literate and you’ve got good attention to detail, please send us a message or call 020 3369 5904 and leave us a voicemail no longer than 60 seconds long telling us why you’re the best person for us and how to get in touch with you.
